What is the difference between a motel and a hotel?
Q. Also, have you ever been in a dirty motel or hotel?
Asked by Da Rich 1 - Thu Nov 13 17:21:45 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Typically, yes, a hotel has indoor corridors to get to the guest rooms and a motel has guest doors that open to the outside. The word "motel" is actually a shorter form of two words "motor hotel" and the concept was that one could "motor" or drive right up to the door of their room. In recent years many new lodging establishments have begun to build the indoor corridors because of security issues and even franchises once considered to be motels no longer build properties with exterior guest room doors. It may explain why so many of them use the word "inn" in their name rather than hotel or motel - for example some of the older Hampton Inn properties have outdoor corridors but the franchise no longer allows them to be built that way. Where in Las Vegas would be a good place to find a motel with weekly rates?
Q. I'm planning on moving to Las Vegas from Southern California. I hear that there are motels downtown that offer weekly and monthly rates. How much should I plan on spending? I would want to stay in a motel to find a job and find an apartment. If I stay in a motel for a month and I realize that Las Vegas is not my cup of tea I can move back to Southern California. Currently I'm a 27 year old unemployed male.

A. stay AWAY from downtown. I live on south las vegas blvd (south strip) the nice area... there is a that offers weekly rates and it is nicely located by stores (cvs pharmacy, chilis 'i think', food for less and the silverton 'bass pro shop' casino is half a mile away) and freeways. there is a bus stop right in front and no homeless people hanging out like in the downtown area the city center is currently hiring for the end of this year and that is only a couple of miles fro here

Which motel by Niagara Falls from Canada side is not expensive and good?
Q. We are going from Chicago to Niagara Falls and looking for a not too expensive and good motel from Canada side to stay. Any suggestions? Also, what would you recommend to visit or any attractions?
Asked by Lady Tiger - Tue Jul 7 18:24:46 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. If you want a bargain - I'd stay at the Niagara Falls Motor Lodge - which is just down the Niagara Parkway in Chippewa (about 5 km from the falls), and a couple minutes drive to the people mover which goes to all the River/Falls attractions.

How can you decontaminate a mattress in a motel or hotel for bed bugs, scabies etc?
Q. What legal action or recourse do you have if you stay at a motel and the managers know the mattresses are infested with bedbugs, etc and you are severely bitten?
Asked by Green G - Tue Aug 19 14:03:22 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I'm not a lawyer and I don't know the exact legal recourse (I do think you might have to prove the managers had prior knowledge), but I know you can file complaints. I would file one with the board of health in that state and locality (talk to everybody you can), and I would also file with the Better Business Bureau. You won't necessarily receive any restitution ($) for your pain and trouble, but it will hopefully force the hotel to clean up their act. At least it will bring them negative publicity. Also, please do an online review so that people like myself see these comments when they do a google search and don't book a room at this nasty place!

What is the difference between a hotel and a motel?
Q. Is there like a office that goes around telling them what it is? What would a motel have to do to become a hotel?
Asked by smokenstuff - Wed Sep 10 01:44:32 2008 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Hotel: Go into a building, then into your room. Generally nicer, more expensive. Motel: Your room's door goes right out into the parking lot. Rooms are usually old, outdated. Cheaper, easier to get a room in the middle of the night.

my landlord is renovating the house so I have to stay in a motel. who is resposible for the cost of the motel?
Q. The landlord told me not to pay the rent for this month because I am being inconvenienced. The renovations are going to take longer than he thought but the rent only covered two weeks at the motel. additional costs are laundry, eating out, fuel costs, etc. I am on fixed income and can't affpord to pay the additional rent at the motel. should the landlord have to pay for these costs?
Asked by binarybill_1945 - Fri Jul 11 09:11:43 2008 - - 9 Answers - 0 Comments

A. you would have to look at your contract/rent agreement or speak to the lawyer or estate agent who found you the property if this is a private arrangement with the landlord, and he is not part of a group or regulated body, then you need to speak to him ASAP, as while you aren't sure, the bill is rising you may need to stay with a friend or find a cheaper alternative

A. Find the hotels in that area, call each of them and talk to them about who you are and what you are looking for, then you should get a good result. Many hotels have a special deal for Churches and other NPO's.

What's the difference between a hotel, a motel, and an inn?
Q. I have always been told that a hotel's doors open inside the building, a motels doors open outdoors, and an inn serves a hot breakfast, but I stayed in a motel 6 where the doors opened indoors. What is your take on this?
Asked by ArmyMedic - Sat Jun 13 03:54:36 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The original description of a motel was a hotel where one could park almost outside one's room. Usually the doors to the rooms at a motel opened onto the parking area. That is less true. "Inn" can mean whatever the owner wants. Usually it's just used to make the facility seem friendlier, or just sounds better. Example Days Inn veserses Days Hotel.

What is the proper tip to leave for housekeeping at a motel?
Q. We stayed at an older motel on Route 66 in Missouri from late Wednesday night till Saturday morning. There was an envelope left for a tip for housekeeping. The rent was $65.00 a night and all they did make the beds (not change the bedding), empty the trash and replace used towels. What would the proper tip have been?
Asked by julie - Sun Aug 2 02:19:45 2009 - - 9 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I always leave a tip for housekeeping if they do a good job. Minimum $2, max $5 is fine.

How old do you have to be to check in a hotel or motel?
Q. I'm from Northern California, and I plan on vacationing in Los Angeles for a few days... How old do you have to be to check in a Hotel or Motel? I'm 19... And I will be with a 17 and 20 year old. We're hoping to get into some TV shows as the audience!
Asked by Impressive_Instant - Sun Apr 19 03:05:56 2009 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments

A. The minimum age is 18 because hotel rental agreements are legal contracts, and minors can not enter into contracts. However some hotels have a policy of not renting to anyone under 21 because unchaperoned teens tend to make noise that disturbs other guests, and they tend to break or damage things. You will need a credit card to check in (so they can bill you for damages) but upon checking out they will accept cash. Note that some of the more popular television programs have a waiting list. Check out the programs you want to see in advance. They all have websites that give detailed information about being an audience member.

Is it required for room service to clean the motel every other day?
Q. We have been staying in a motel, and my husband works at night, so he sleeps during the day until about 12 in the afternoon or so, and room service knocks on our door at about 10 in the morning, even when the do not disturb sign is up. I called the front desk and they said that they are required to clean the room every other day. Is this true?
Asked by Steph [preggo with a girl!] - Tue Aug 11 13:31:20 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Depends on the chain. Some hotels require daily cleaning because there may be pest issues. By law they are required to enter the room every 3 days to check for drug use/illegal activity. Most hotels reserve the right to enter the room at anytime. However, they do want to keep good customers. I would call the chain headquarters and ask what the policy is. You may also be able to schedule a good time for cleaning. Just be respectful and remember that hotels are there not only for you but for other guests. Their job is to make sure that hotel room looks as good or better for the next guest.
