A motel is a hotel designed for motorists, to an open parking area. Entering dictionaries after World War II, the word motel, a portmanteau of motor and hotel or motorists' hotel, referred initially to a type of hotel consisting of a single building of connected rooms whose doors faced a parking lot and, in some circumstances, a common area; or a series of small cabins with common parking. As the United States highway system began to develop in the 1920s, long distance road journeys became more and the need for inexpensive, easily accessible overnight accommodation sited close to the main routes, led to the growth of the motel concept. I have been trying, for hours, to find a decent hotel in or around Williamsburg, Virginia. I have been on Trip Advisor's website where people can post reviews of their hotel rooms. I have been thoroughly disgusted. Almost every hotel/motel has had a least one report of cockroaches or bugs of some kind. I don't tolerate bugs and I definitely don't want them coming back home with me in my suitcase. If I would bring a cockroach home, I would have to move. Anyway, does anyone have any suggestions? Q. I live in northwest Kansas and there are black beetles coming in from outside - how they get in I don't know. The motel owners say they can't do anything about them because they come in from outside. I am so sick of this. The fly around our heads at night and crawl all over us and it's making me sick. We can't move to another motel because my boyfriend's company won't pay for it. They are little black flying beetles with chompers - that is the only way I can describe them - and I don't know what the best way is to control them. We had a professional exterminator come in and spray around the base boards once per month. It was wonderful. Absolutely no bugs for about 30 days. Later on, we discovered something such as Raid. We started doing our own spraying once per month. It worked. Give this a try.
