Q. Hi, I need to attend a test in USC (the university of Sunshine coast next month. Since I am living on the gold coast and have never been to sunshine coast, I need your help to find a motel to stay overnight. The motel should be close to the university campus and public transport. How can you decontaminate a mattress in a motel or hotel for bed bugs, scabies etc?

A. I'm not a lawyer and I don't know the exact legal recourse (I do think you might have to prove the managers had prior knowledge), but I know you can file complaints. I would file one with the board of health in that state and locality (talk to everybody you can), and I would also file with the Better Business Bureau. You won't necessarily receive any restitution ($) for your pain and trouble, but it will hopefully force the hotel to clean up their act. At least it will bring them negative publicity. Also, please do an online review so that people like myself see these comments when they do a google search and don't book a room at this nasty place!

It is crazy expensive. i have grew up in a motel. lets see, a room average is about 50 bucks a night. thats about 350 a week and about 1400 bucks a month... thats not including all your other expenses like food and stuff. it is so much cheaper to get an apartment. plus, motels are so loud and you never have peace and quiet. then when you are ready to get out of a motel and get your own place, it is very hard to save up the money due to you paying every night for a room.. so you will never get out.. i know from experience... i think your better off with a house or apartment.. good luck

my landlord is renovating the house so I have to stay in a motel. who is resposible for the cost of the motel?
Q. The landlord told me not to pay the rent for this month because I am being inconvenienced. The renovations are going to take longer than he thought but the rent only covered two weeks at the motel. additional costs are laundry, eating out, fuel costs, etc. I am on fixed income and can't affpord to pay the additional rent at the motel. should the landlord have to pay for these costs?

When you rent a motel room, you're entering into a contract, and since you have to be 18 in most cases to enter into a binding contract, none of the major chains are going to let you check in, even if you made a reservation online. In addition, most websites will have terms & conditions (the fine print) that say you have to be 18 to use their site. So legally you're out of luck. You're best bet would probably be to show up at a small local hotel and hope that the manager has more rooms than sense. Don't sweat it too much, though.
